C*L – Dad and I hope you always see beauty in the world and that it continues to nourish you, that you always share your discoveries with others to make the world a richer place, and that you will always be open to the discoveries that others bring to you. And remember that love is the glue that holds everything together in the world, so be good to one another.

On the back of your invitation, it reads

“Move between worlds. Believe in magic. Have fun always.”

Although it is an oversimplification of what we as a family hold close, and what Dad and I wish for you as you embark on the next chapter of this grand adventure, the sentiments hit all the right notes.

Look around this room. All of these people have had some impact on your life. That impact may have been direct. The people who sat and read with you for hours, the people who taught you how to love food, really hear music, and feel safe going in the ocean. The people who taught you how to be a better friend. A better person. The people who encouraged you to dig deeper, reach higher or pick yourself up and try again, maybe from a different vantage point. Still other people here tonight did those things for your dad and me, made us the people and parents we are to you.

Tonight is one of those times when all of your worlds (the ones you know about so far anyway) are all in one place.
May you both always move between those worlds with grace, ease, humility, and love.

Magic.
For all of its challenges, life is also magical – filled with possibility and music and wonder, and joy.
We have tried to pass on that spirit to you in so many ways – but as you get older you’ll need to see some of that magic on your own.

Believe in the magic that surrounds you everywhere.

Have fun always is a reminder to enjoy the ride.
To participate.
To laugh often.
To tell people you love them.

Colette and Lucie, Daddy and I love you very much.
A lot, a little, and everything in the middle.
